Now in its third year, the annual Irish Hotel Awards was held in The Galmont Hotel & Spa, Galway on the 8th April 2019. With over 300 guests representing hospitality professionals from across the island, the evening was a celebration of outstanding excellence in the industry.
The evening was opened by His Worship, The Mayor of the City of Galway – Niall McNelis who welcomed the audience to Galway – voted the world’s friendliest city and looked forward to 2020 when Galway will be celebrated as the Capital of Culture. Speaking to hospitality professionals from across Ireland he said “It is a huge honour for me to welcome you all here to Galway, I recognise how much you give back to your communities in terms of providing opportunities and employment.”
The team at The Galmont Hotel & Spa pulled out all the stops to deliver an evening of fine dining, celebration and craic. The kitchen team created a menu sponsored by Robb Wines, Ballinwillin House Farm, Bluebell Falls Artisan Cheese, Silver Hill Farm Duck, Causeway Prime Meats, Deli Muru, Traditional Cheese Company, Lindt Chocolate and J&C Kenny Wines. Guests were entertained by comedian Jack Wise who raised the roof and certainly brought hilarity to the proceedings.
Shane Smith, Managing Director of NI Media who run the awards said “We would like to thank our sponsors Allied Irish Bank Merchant Services, Britvic & Greaseshield for supporting the Irish Hotel Awards. Each and everyone of our members has been individually assessed and our winners here tonight were judged by a panel of industry professionals.
One of our researchers recently commented that “there is a big difference between a good hotel and a memorable hotel” and we know from our results that each and every one of our member hotels are doing just that and delivering memorable experiences for their guests.
The figures for the early part of the year show a +7% in overseas arrivals and this is in no small part due to the efforts of hospitality professionals across the island.”
The Irish Hotel Awards is sponsored by AIB Merchant Services, Greaseshield and Britvic, recognising and rewarding excellence in hospitality and service across Ireland. It is the only awards programme that takes an all-Ireland approach to working with the hospitality industry.
